Year 1 & 2: Hundertwasser, part 2

In our last lesson, the children learned about Friedensreich Hundertwasser and started to design their own fantasy landscapes, thinking about pattern and composition.

This week, they began their final piece. Once the drawing was complete, we used watercolour paint and then details in felt pen. Here are some of the Year 1 pupils from Miss Brook's and Miss Price's classes:

Here are the Year 2s drawing and then adding colour to their designs:

The children enjoyed learning about Hundertwasser's creative approach to art and life and were inspired by his imaginative architecture. One of the Year 1 children travelled to New Zealand to visit the Hundertwasser toilets in Kawakawa: to be fair, I think that the trip had been booked before we started these lessons but I know that she insisted that her parents make a detour so that she could see for herself one of the buildings that we had studied. She will be our in-school expert on Hundertwasser when she returns!
